Did You Know That Cacao Is A Potent Womb Medicine?

For many, Cacao is known only as a powerful Heart healing medicine, with

an immense capacity to open the heart and connect us to the world around us.

But did you know that Cacao's medicine extends beyond the heart, and into the Womb? That her powerful life-giving magic actually supports our menstrual cycles, fertility, connection to our wombs and can bring deep healing?

From the first moment I met Cacao, she took me on a deep initiation into my Womb space. My intention being to heal the trauma that I was holding, so that I could bring life into this world through a clear-as-possible, healed-as-possible womb. Cacao has acted as a Mother to me over the course of my journey with her, gently encouraging me to acknowledge grief and wounding that I have held in my Womb, and supporting me to release and step deeper into knowing myself. Her medicine has been gentle, strong, deeply nurturing, confronting, comforting and deeply transformative. By connecting with her spirit and taking her medicine often, I have been able to traverse the pained, stagnant, numb realms of my womb and be re-born as a Mother myself. Which is the most precious gift Cacao has ever offered me.

Cacao and Her Connection 

To The Ancient Mayan Womb Goddess

In Mayan culture, the medicine of Cacao and the Goddess Ixchel are deeply connected. Ixchel is a moon goddess associated with of fertility, childbirth, weaving, cycles of nature and the abundance of the Earth. In many Mayan artworks, Ixchel is depicted carrying cacao and sometimes exchanging her with other deities. Ixchel, carrying the deeply healing, heart opening, divinely feminine medicine of cacao, which is so incredibly healing for the menstrual cycle and womb - it is no surprise!

So if you are on your own journey with your womb, connecting to the Goddess Ixchel and Mother Cacao together, may be a very powerful combination. Cacao is a potent womb medicine that can really help you to connect and heal.

Womb Connection Practice

Calling in Mother Cacao & Ixchel

Create yourself a really yummy, nourishing cup of Cacao (recipe and an intention setting meditation on my website)

Share any blessings, gratitude of prayers that you have for Cacao before beginning. Creating an altar and leaving offerings for both Cacao and Ixchel is a really good idea, to bring reverence and respect to your ritual.

Take a few deep breaths to centre yourself, and lay your hands on your Womb. Allow your intention for this practice to enter your heart on the in-breath, and then flow down into your womb on the out-breath.

Keep this going for as long as feels good.

When you feel ready, take your first sips of cacao, drinking in your intention, really feeling her medicine entering your body and being.

How does she taste?

How does she smell?

How does she feel in your body?

Are there any emotions, images, memories or words that are evoked with your first sip?

You are now invited to welcome in the Goddess Ixchel, to come and sit with you. Inwardly or out loud, share your intention with her, and anything that your womb wishes to share, too.

Now allow yourself to receive. You may wish to journal or free-flow write and see what comes through, meditate, draw, pull oracle cards - allow your intuition and the powerful presence of Cacao and Ixchel to guide you into a deeper communion with yourself and your womb.

 When you are finished, thank both of these deities and your Womb, for their guidance, wisdom and presence, before closing the space and coming back to yourself.
